Education Informed Dancing

Image
Injury Prevention Education At Adagio, we build in education into all of our classes. Starting in our older classes, we begin teaching dance anatomy so they can prevent injury in competition level classes. Teaching dance anatomy also helps teach students proper ways to perform dance moves. For our younger kids we add in core strengthening exercises and stretches disguised as fun and engaging activities. For our older students we have a variety of conditioning classes that help with building muscle and stretching as well. When work into more complex and difficult styles of dance, we want to ensure they are safe! Especially once our ballerinas start on pointe shoes. By embedding education in all of our classes, we can ensure a safe and fun dance environment.

YPAD

Adagio is YPAD Certified! What is YPAD? It stands for Youth Protection Advocates in Dance, and they are an organization dedicated to creating a safer environment for dancers to learn and grow. We believe that it is important for the Adagio family to grow and learn as a community, and through the YPAD trainings we have learned a lot. In our community we pride ourselves on being an inclusive and safe place for students of all ages. Through getting our YPAD certification, we have made a promise to our community to always do better.

Top Five Things to do Downtown while your Child is in Class

We highly encourage parents to sit down and take a rest while their child is in class. The only reason we might want a parent to stick around for class is if their child is not potty trained. We do this to help build the students independence and confidence in class. So, what are you going to do for the next few hours while your child is hard at work in the studio? Assuming you don’t want to drive back home just to come back a few short hours later, here are some places within walking distance of our studio for you to keep yourself occupied. A mere 300 paces north of our studio, you will find Downtown Grand Junction, a quaint little shopping mall that sells a number of fun knick knacks and what have you. Just around the corner is Edward Jones Investments, for you financial buffs out there. We, however, suggest you make a right, where you can grab yourself a slice of pizza at Pablo’s Pizza, or go across the street and snag a piping hot cup of joe from Kiln Coffee Bar. Whatever you do, t...

Recital Checklist

Image
The preparation that goes into a dance recital is almost as important as the recital itself; all the more reason to be sure that dancers and their families put in the time to properly ready themselves prior to a recital. Here at Adagio Dance Academy we have gone the extra mile in taking the liberty of compiling and creating a comprehensive list of all that a young dancer may need prior to their big day. Being meticulous and ensuring that our dancers have what they need eliminates any extraneous angst and allows them to focus on what they’re really here for: Dancing! Here’s what we think you will want to be sure that you have going into your recitals: All Costumes. All accessories including headpieces and barretts, ect. All Dance Shoes. Proper Undergarments. Extra tights. Extra Bobby Pins. Extra Hairnets. Extra Hair ties. Folks, through our years in the dance industry, we’ve dealt with more dancers than you could count on your own two hands! Needless to sa...

Body Image in the Dance World

Image
We at Adagio Dance Academy want you to feel comfortable and confident with who you are. We try to encourage body positivity in our classes because everyone is different in their own amazing ways.  We want to throw out any and every stereotype that comes with being a dancer. There is a sense of belonging when you enroll in any of our classes. Whether you are just beginning your journey of dance or you are part of our competitive ballet teams, you will receive equal attention and encouragement from our “dance family”. Regardless of your size, shape, skin tone and physical ability we are challenging present day beauty standards and promoting positivity. “I love watching dancers perform a perfect pirouette or 32 fouettés in a row, but that pales in comparison to watching the smile on a child’s face when they feel comfortable enough to try something new.” -Jessica Miracle, Owner/Director.
